If you find that mechanisms are particularly difficult for you, you can work the mechanism sheets on your own, starting with the following: HX addition to alkenes, cation rearrangement, acid catalyzed addition of an alcohol to an alkene, alkene hydrogenation, alcohol dehydration, alkane free radical halogenation, Grignard reacting with an aldehyde/ketone, acetal formation, acid catalyzed ester hydrolysis, imine formation, SN2, E2 and SN1/E1. Answers will not be posted, but they are listed in the 6th Edition of Brown, Foote, Iverson and Anslyn

Homework for Lecture 4 will consist of a roadmap and then a homework problem set:

Fiorst you should fill out the roadmap for the first semester reactions. Download the template here (pdf) and I recommend you use a large poster sized sheet of paper. You should use the summary of first semester reactions as a guide.

Here is a completed first semester roadmap. The numbers correspond pretty closely to the numbers used in the end of chapter reaction summaries for the 5th edition of Brown, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn.

After you finish the mechanism sheets and first semester roadmap, try the Lecture 4 Homework (pdf).

Homework for Lecture 5 will consist of three roadmaps and a homework problem set:

Fill in the three roadmaps for second semester, second semester roadmap part 1 (pdf), second semester roadmap part 2 (pdf), and second semester roadmap part 3 (pdf).

Here are completed roadmaps for second semester roadmap part 1 (pdf), second semester roadmap part 2 (pdf), and second semester roadmap part 3 (pdf). The numbers correspond pretty closely to the numbers used in the end of chapter reaction summaries for the 5th edition of Brown, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn.

After you fill in the three roadmaps, try the Lecture 5 Homework (pdf)
